Kramer Ausenco was commissioned for the investigation, design and documentation for the upgrading & improvements to the Togoba-Wabag Section of the Enga Highway in the highlands of Papua New Guinea.
The work, funded by the World Bank, included the investigation and geometric design of 89km of road from Togoba in Western Highlands Province to Wabag in Enga province as a two lane sealed road. Final design and documentation for the first 38 km from Togoba was carried out while the remaining 51km was taken to preliminary design stage only. The design speeds, and thus road design standards, were determined by an incremental cost analysis technique rather than adoption of design speeds based on terrain classification and road category. The Project included the design of 20 bridges.
