Brothers Rugby Football Union Club will have all glamour to show in next year’s Port Moresby competition after receiving quality jumpers from new sponsors, mining and engineering company, Kramer Ausenco, on Monday. Brothers “Old Boys” chairman George Koi said the sponsorship of about K40,000 was spent on the purchase of five sets of jumpers and transportation costs from Australia, including customs clearance.
He said the support from the Kramer Ausenco would go a long way in assisting the club after former sponsors, PNG Ports, pulled out last year. “It is quite difficult finding good support and it is the first for the Brothers club to have such a sponsor,” Koi said. He also thanked Leon Buskins and Bernard Maladina for establishing a network with the firm to secure sponsorship for the club. “Things are looking quite good for the club and I am confident the club will perform extremely well in the competition this season. “We will also prove to be a prospect the company can benefit from,” Koi said.
Australian rugby league legend and Australian Prime Minister’s XIII coach Mal Meninga, who was in PNG to promote the firm, presented the uniforms to the club executives. Although he came from a rugby league background, Meninga said the two sports might be different but it was about the important role that sports could play in the societies. “The sponsorship is part of the company’s community building and we were glad to come on board to assist the Brothers Rugby Football club,” he said. “It gives young people a chance in life and teaches them the skills that will nurture them to be better people in life.”
