Senior Engineer/Project Manager with Kramer Ausenco Papua New Guinea, Mr Benny Kimisive, has been appointed Board Chairman of the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA)-the government agency that regulates the mining industry in PNG.
Mr Kimisive’s appointment was made by the PNG Government’s National Executive Council and announced by Mining Minister Johnson Tuke on Friday, May 10, 2019.
Kramer Ausenco Group Chief Executive Officer Frank Kramer said the appointment was a reflection of Mr Kimisive’s professionalism and experience.
“I congratulate Benny on his MRA Chairmanship. Benny is a knowledgeable and well-respected member of the engineering and mining industries. He puts PNG’s interests first, and this will be of benefit to the people of this country,” Mr Kramer said.
Mr Kimisive said that the decisions the board makes impacts on the people, and he will ensure landowners are given all due consideration in terms of MRA’s service delivery to them.
He is looking forward to guiding the authority, especially in terms of governance, management and to some level-technical aspects of the MRA’s operations.
Mr Kimisive who was one of the first Papua New Guineans to manage an engineering division at Ok Tedi Mine has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from the PNG University of Technology (Unitech), and a Diploma in Business Management from the Great Barrier Reef Tafe, Queensland, Australia.
He worked at Ok Tedi between 1993 and 2012, then with the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government in 2015-2016 as Chief Engineer.
Mr Kimisive also served as a trustee on the Dudi Trust Ok Tedi in 2010. He is also a member of the Mining Advisory Council, a position he will resign from in due course to take up his new role as Chairman.
