Kramer Ausenco sponsored player Brandan Kalsakau was a standout performer for his Vanuatu Barbarians Under 18’s Schoolboys 7’s Squad, at the recent World Schools Sevens Tournament.
The World School Sevens is an annual rugby sevens competition held in New Zealand that showcases the best under 18 seven’s talent from around the globe.
The Vanuatu Barbarians debuted at the tournament in December 2018 with a squad of boys selected from the Chiefs Rugby Academy Vanuatu, a development program run voluntarily by local dads in their spare time on Saturday mornings.
The members of the self-funded program sought sponsorship to help get the team to New Zealand, partnering with a kit sponsor-who would sponsor the travel/playing kit for the squad-and then partnering with twelve individual business houses to sponsor each player.
Kramer Ausenco Vanuatu through Office Manager Jay Jameson and Human Resource Manager Rebecca Jameson supported the project by sponsoring 18-year old Kalsakau from Tebakor College, Port Vila.
“Brandan was one of our top players during the tournament. He came of age in our match against Canada during the tournament, with his amazing cover defence and two tries from his step and speed,”
“He’s been with our academy since its inception in 2012 and has continued to develop into a very elusive attacker and feisty defender,” said coach and team manager Dave Lolo.
He thanked Kramer Ausenco for helping to provide a pathway for Brandan through rugby and said, “Brandan and the other boys have benefited from this trip as young men, and the entire cultural exchange will be a priceless experience for them for many years to come.”
Mr Jameson, who is also a voluntary coach of the Barbarians, congratulated Brandan on his strong showing at the rugby festival and encouraged him to continue to work hard both on and off the field.
“The Chiefs Rugby Academy Vanuatu and Kramer Ausenco share the values of discipline, respect and culture. As a company we know that sports play an important role in our societies, and we’re proud to help young people become good rugby players, and more importantly, exceptional citizens,” Mr Jameson said.
