The Solomon Islands Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) on behalf of the Democratic Coalition for Change Government (DCCG, SIG) – Policy Statement, signed a contract with Kramer Ausenco (SI) Ltd on January 2016.
The agreement was for KA to undertake the Master Planning for the redevelopment of Kilu’ufi Hospital in Auki, Malaita Province and Kirakira Hospital in Kirakira, Makira-Ulawa Province.
The Master Planning key deliverables included:
- Master Plan Design Report; and,
- Master Plan Structural Engineering Report.
The reports assessed the existing infrastructure and clinical services at each of the hospitals, and identified the gaps analysis according to the current Services Delivery Packages for Solomon Islands Hospitals and the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines Version 4, 2010. KA, upon their commission by MHMS, prepared two distinct options for each hospital based on the above findings.
The Master Plan reports will guide the future development of the hospitals and ensure the medical services delivered are in accordance with the Solomon Islands national health system.
The MHMS praised KA (SI) Ltd for the deliverables successfully produced beyond client expectations. This ended the first redevelopment phase for Kirakira and Kilu’ufi hospitals on June 2016.
The detailed design and future redevelopment of the hospitals is expected to be undertaken after further consultations and identification by MHMS for suitable donor partners.
