Kramer Ausenco Vanuatu will carry out the assessment work on 44 health facilities in the country damaged by Tropical Cyclone Pam in March 2015.
Honourable Health Minister, Toara Daniel, and KA Vanuatu Office Manager, Jay Jameson, signed the Vt16.7 million contract on Tuesday, 6 September 2016, in Port Vila.
This work requires KA to work closely with the Ministry of Health Asset Team, to visit each identified health facility across four different provinces in Vanuatu, some of which are located in remote areas; assess cyclone damage; scope the repairs, and prepare bills of quantities and construction drawings; which allow contractors to repair cyclone related damage.
Minister Daniel said KA’s work is important because, based on their assessment, decisions will be made on which facilities are worked on first. He said the government wants to repair all the facilities as soon as possible, and as cyclone season is nearing again, he reminded contractors to ‘rebuild better’.
Ministry of Health Director General, George Taleo, said the contract signing committing KA to scoping and assessment work would help the ministry and government improve health infrastructure under the Australian Government-funded Cyclone Pam Infrastructure Recovery Program.
Mr Jameson who was in the country when the cyclone hit about 18 months ago, and saw the force and magnitude of the situation, said Kramer Ausenco is long invested in Vanuatu and has the resources to fully commit and assist the nation in achieving the goals for this cyclone recovery project. He thanked the Government of Vanuatu for selecting Kramer Ausenco for the project.
