Nicholson Garae, a Civil Engineer from the Kramer Ausenco Vanuatu office voluntarily enrolled with the ProMedical Vanuatu Road Accident Rescue Team (RAR) in May this year. Over the past 4 months he has participated in training sessions held on vehicle accident rescue and first aid training both theoretic and hands-on. He is part of a volunteering team consisting of two groups of 6 whom will be on call for emergency road accident rescue. The rescue team’s basic responsibilities are to attend to any accident scene, stabilize the vehicle, and safely cut through the car to make room for the Paramedics to attend to the victims. Prior to the teams being active, they had to perform an accident scenario, and were judged by the major sponsor, guests and the public.
The 1st RAR Team conducted their demonstration on the 14th of September 2014 which took place at Le Lagon Warwick Spa & Resort along with a dinner fundraiser which raised around 2 Million Vatu of which 10% went to The ProMedical Rescue Team’s charity funds account.
The 2nd RAR Team performed their demonstration at the Survivor Games at Benjor on the 21st of September, Led by Zeak Smith the team simulated rescuing Love Lui from a wrecked vehicle (kindly donated and delivered by Recyclecorp). Nicolson Garae of Kramer Ausenco was on Scene Management, Jimmy Tari was on Vehicle Stabalisation, Kris Russet on Glass Management and Terry Maloney & Joseph Lange were on the cutting tools. The team had Love out in 9 minutes. Leading up to the demonstration the volunteering teams were working hard supporting the event, managing the parking and helping out with the BBQ as again 10% of the profits will go to the rescue team.
This is an important free service for Port Vila & Efate. ProMedical Rescue members are all volunteers, there to help the community. As this is a voluntary role, ProMedical Vanuatu offered the training for free.
Kramer Ausenco wishes to take this opportunity to thank ProMedical Vanuatu and congratulate Nicholson Garae on being a part of the RAR Team.
